Whenever I take a moment to stop and reflect on this recent trip, I think of how this village is being favored by God. To be able to come back to visit even briefly after 3 very long years away, and see so much progress in the growth of the children -- physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually-- that is a tremendous blessing. We were cautioned by the long-term missionaries not to make any sort of promises that we would come back to see them after leaving the first time. I really had to catch myself several times to keep from doing this, especially when it was time to say good-bye to everyone. It's not that they didn't want us to come back, because they did--they longed for us to become regular visitors. They just didn't want the children to get their hopes up.
Three years was just too long to stay away. I hope and pray that I can visit annually from now on. If I have to spend all my vacation time in Africa just to stay in touch, then that is what I will do. No promises, of course, but I can dream, right?
I remember feeling apprehensive about returning after three years away, wondering what would be the same? What would be different? Would it be a growing, thriving ministry? Or would it be struggling in the face of political, economic, or other worldly concerns?
Now, looking back, I can relax and thank God for sheltering and protecting and blessing this village mightily. The village is growing stronger and more vibrant and influential in the local region and beyond. Best of all, the children have been carrying on just fine without any help from me, lol! God has his hand on this village, and is raising up some amazing young people through this ministry. Yes, there are struggles and issues and daily needs. But they are each lifted up in abundant prayer, and prayers and being answered. Faith is growing, and lives are being changed for the better. Yay God!!!
I can't wait to go back. I want to take others with me. So many have asked to go "next time", but time will tell which ones are serious. Enjoy more photos of the children!
